Larian’s posted another community update for Baldur’s Gate 3 on Steam today, and they continue to impress with their dedication to improving a game that’s already won a copious amount of rewards. The announcement includes a vague release date of September for Patch 7, and details quite a bit of the useful and fun things coming in the next update. You can read the full Community Update on Steam, but we’ve summarized and discussed the changes below for those of you who just want the cheat-sheet.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Community Update #28 (Patch 7) TL;DR:
Split Screen Updates – Dynamic split screen will merge the two screens when players are close enough
Honour Mode Improvements – More legendary actions for creatures and enemies
Baldur’s Gate 3 Modding Toolkit Releases
Evil Endings – Multiple new endings have been added
Dark Urge Bug Fixes
Origin Character Bug Fixes
Party Banter Improvements – Multiplayer parties will now still get character banter between characters assigned to different players
New Merch
The Future – More updates are coming, including crossplay and photo mode
A lot of this is self-explanatory — but still exciting. The split screen change is great, check it out:
Larian also gave teaser GIFs for some of the new endings, as said endings come with cinematics, but we’ll avoid posting those here in case people want to be totally surprised. Speaking of animations, much of the Origin character bug fixing includes animations — we’re sure many players will be eager to learn that this includes some facial animations when kissing Astarion. All of the Origin characters got fixes to animations, quests, or both, including how they react to certain scenes or events.
The release of the official modkit is arguably the biggest news in this update, however — BG3 is already a game with a strong community and plenty of replayability, but with mods, the possibilities become endless. Looking at what fans have done with Skyrim over the years, it seems safe to say Baldur’s Gate 3 is set to get better and better via mods over the coming years.
Not only thanks to modders, though. “We still have a few things up our sleeve”, says Larian, including crossplay and photo mode, plus a “host of other enhancements”. We’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for future community updates to learn exactly what those other enhancements are!
