How to Get to the Temple of Blood – Elden Ring

Many players first spot the Temple of Blood after riding the lift in Limgrave down to Siofra River. The temple sits across an impassable chasm, tantalizingly close yet unreachable. In this guide, we’ll explain exactly how to get to the Temple of Blood, where Mohg, Lord of Blood awaits.

There are actually two ways to reach the Temple of Blood (which is referred to in-game as the Dynasty Mausoleum). The “normal” way is fairly involved, and requires reaching the Consecrated Snowfield; this path requires going through much of the game. The other option also has a number of steps, and necessitates doing the majority Varre‘s questline to obtain the Pureblood Knight’s Medal; this path can be accessed much earlier in the game.

Reaching the Consecrated Snowfield necessitates getting both the left and right halves of the Haligtree medallion:

  • The right half is located in Liurnia of the Lakes, in the Village of the Albinaurics. You’ll need to roll into a pot near the coffins found east of the Village of the Albinaurics site of grace — doing so will reveal an NPC. Speak to them enough times, and they’ll give you the medallion half.
  • The left half can be found in Castle Sol, in the Mountaintops of the Giants. You’ll have to first defeat Commander Niall, the boss of the castle, before you can reach the medallion.

Once you have both halves of the medallion, you’ll need to make your way to the Grand Lift of Rold in the Forbidden Lands. Once at the lift, you’ll be able to cycle through a couple options — select “Hoist Secret Medallion”, press the indicated button, and the lift will take you to the Consecrated Snowfield (rather than the Mountaintops of the Giants, which is where it goes by default).

You’ll have to fight your way through the Hidden Path to the Haligtree dungeon to reach the snowfield proper. Then head to the western edge of the area — at the spot indicated below is a waygate that will take you to Mohgwyn Palace, the area with the Temple of Blood.

You meet Varre immediately upon entering Limgrave, at the First Step site of grace. After defeating Godrick in Stormveil Castle, Varre will move to Liurnia of the Lakes, where he’ll stand in front of the Rose Church. Before meeting him there, you’ll need to enter the room in Roundtable Hold with the Two Fingers, and exhaust the dialog with the finger reader there (this room opens after you defeat your first demigod).

Once you’ve met the Two Fingers, speak with Varre in Liurnia, and when he asks you what you thought of the Two Fingers, say “They didn’t seem right”. Then speak with him until he gives you 5 Festering Bloody Fingers. Next, use a Bloody Finger 3 times to invade another player’s world. You don’t have to actually fight, just successfully use 3 fingers — you can even use your Finger Severer to leave after entering the other player’s world.

Return to Varre after invading three times, and he’ll ask you if you’d like to be anointed — choose “Anoint me”, and he’ll give you the Lord of Blood’s Favor. Then go to the Church of Inhibition, which is to the northeast of Liurnia, and interact with the dead maiden there to receive the Lord of Blood’s Favor (Dyed).

Return to Varre once again, and he’ll give you the Bloody Finger — speak with him another time, and he’ll give you what you need to reach the Temple of Blood, the Pureblood Knight’s Medal. Select the medal in your inventory and use it to be transported to Mohgwyn Palace, close to the entrance.

After teleporting to Mohgwyn Palace either via the waygate or the medallion, you’ll be able to make your way to the Temple of Blood (AKA Mohgwyn Mausoleum), which is found in the west of this area.

The Knight’s Medal will take you very close to the entrance; taking the waygate will necessitate making your way to the northern section of the area in order to reach the temple entrance.
