Ancient Magic Hotspots - Hogwarts Legacy

In Hogwarts Legacy, Ancient Magic is an enigmatic force, unbound by normal magical law — though, due to its ties to the Dark Arts and chaos, you might learn something if you investigate it when it crops up, by visiting Ancient Magic Hotspots and investigating the ruins near them. In the guide, we will go over what Ancient Magic Hotspots are, where they can be found, and how to complete them to increase your Ancient Magic capacity.

What Are Ancient Magic Hotspots?

Dotted throughout the map, there are places where Ancient Magic (the magic that you are uniquely attuned to) flourishes. These places are called Ancient Magic Hotspots, and investigating them is key to unlocking more of your own potential with Ancient Magic. These locations are ruins, which will require you to activate their Ancient Magic and then hunt down three Ancient Magic Traces within the grounds of the ruins.

Completing these Ancient Magic Hotspots adds to the progress of the Ancient Magic Hotspots Challenge, under the Exploration category. By completing enough Hotspots to accomplish milestones (requiring 2, 8, and 20 Hotspots, respectively), you will be able to increase your stores of Ancient Magic, with each milestone granting you an additional bar of Ancient Magic.

How to Complete an Ancient Magic Hotspot

The Ancient Magic Hotspots can be completed as soon as you come across them, regardless of where you are in the story.

In order to complete an Ancient Magic Hotspot, you will first need to locate it on your map or via Revelio, to track its initial location. Ancient Magic Hotspots always begin just outside of ancient ruins, where there will be a swell of Ancient Magic that you can activate with /. Once you do, three Ancient Magic Traces will appear through the ruins, requiring you to explore the ruins and solve puzzles in order to activate each of the Traces (which you can do simply by touching them).

Most of these puzzles just require simple platforming, which you can often skip by using your broom. Some, however, require the use of spells (most commonly Depulso, Accio, or Incendio) to access parts of the ruins, such as those locked behind gates or trapped behind overgrown plants. Other puzzles might even require you to navigate through teleporting toad statues in a specific order, or to head into catacombs below the ruins. If you ever need to know where to find the next Ancient Magic Trace, they can be located by simply casting Revelio.
