This walkthrough will take you through the main quest “Defence Against the Dark Arts Class”, including finding the classroom, successfully learning Levioso, and winning a duel.

How to Find the Defence Against the Dark Arts Class

Once you’re assigned this quest, you’ll need to make your way to the Defence Against the Dark Arts Class. Hit and a shining gold thread will guide you to class.

Attend Defence Against the Dark Arts Class

Make your way up the stairs, where you’ll find a door on the right — hit / to enter the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom. Once the cutscene ends, you’ll need to complete a minigame in order to learn the Levioso spell. Use the left stick to keep the small yellow icon with the triangle (that represents your wand) steady, and tap / when the wand icon reaches the matching button to speed up your wand — miss these, and you’ll have to start over.

After sucessfully learning Levioso, another brief cutscene will play. Then, you’ll need to perform a series of spells against the Training Dummy. First, hit R2 to do a Basic Cast on the training dummy. Then, hold , and press the face button that Levioso is assigned to — once the training dummy is levitating, you can then press R2 again to do a Basic Cast.

_{Note: The reason Professor Hecat has you cast Levioso first on the training dummy is because Yellow (Control) spells break Yellow shields.}

Another cutscene will play, and then you’ll have to duel Sebastian Sallow. He’ll start with a Yellow shield, so make sure you cast Levioso right away to break it, then start hitting him with Basic Casts. Keep an eye on your Levioso cooldown, and when it is available again, cast it a second time to stop Sebastian attacking you. Make sure you’re casting Protego when you get the warning halo (see our Basic Combat guide for details), and holding the input to cast the Stupefy counter. He’ll also sometimes cast Levioso on you — mash the indicated button on your character to get down sooner.

Once you do enough damage to Sebastian, another cutscene will play. When it ends, you’ll need to speak with Sebastian. He’s behind you in the corner, indicated by the objective marker. Walk up to him and press / to start a conversation. He’ll tell you about the duelling club, and suggest you speak with Lucan Brattleby near the Clock Tower Entrance.
