How to Identify Gear

In Hogwarts Legacy, you will encounter a lot of Magical Equipment throughout your adventures. However, not all Gear can be instantly used: you will often find equipment that will come in the form of Unidentified Gear, which will need an extra step before you can actually use or sell it. In this guide, we will introduce the process for Identifying Magical Equipment!

If you spent the early parts of the game exploring outskirts of Hogwarts, you have undoubtedly found some Unidentified Gear! However, this gear can’t be used until you unlock the Room of Requirement. Once you unlock the room, you will also gain access to the Desk of Description (no blueprint or placing needed), which also serves as the Identification Station.

Once you have the Identification Station, all you have to do is approach it with some Unidentified items in the inventory and press the / / F button, depending on whether you play on Console or PC.

The Unidentified Gear will now pop up in your inventory with its actual Name and Stats!
Keep in mind that you will be able to see the Gear Rarity based on its Color, even if the mysterious item itself does not show any Stats or a Name.
