Prospect Notes
This mission is incredibly grindy. See the list of ingredients required in Step 3 before deciding to embark on this mission.
Since this is a Stockpile mission, you will need to collect and/or craft a long list of tools and resources. You will then need to deliver these to two different dropship. While the mission objectives you’re given upon landing tell you to head into the Arctic, it’s a waste of time — instead, follow the directions below (or simply refer to the list above) and craft all required items before heading into the snow.
In order to collect all the crafting materials required for the massive amount of food Sinotai has requested, you’ll probably want to create a farm full of Crop Plots early on, basically as soon as you’ve found your first Squash, Soy Bean, or Watermelon. You’ll also need to make frequent trips into the southeastern Arctic to kill Polar Bears for their skins. Bears don’t spawn in the northwestern Arctic region, so don’t bother looking for them there.
This map is courtesy of FinallyRage and his wonderful tool Icarus Intel, which you should use if you want to track which caves you’ve mined, or if you’d like to zoom in for more detail.
Preparing for ADVANCED ORDER
You’ll need to be at least level 20 to craft all the necessary items for this mission, and you’ll need to have most of the Tier 3 munitions blueprints unlocked. See below for the full list of necessary blueprints:
While it’s theoretically possible to collect everything you need without farming, the Crop Plot is recommended for ensuring you can get all the food ingredients you need for the Consumables order. It’s also a good idea to bring the following farming packets if you have them unlocked:
Wheat is fairly easy to find, but you can also bring the Wheat Farming Packet if you so choose. Bringing a high-tier Workshop Knife and Pickaxe with you will also speed up your resource collecting in the early game significantly.
Mission Walkthrough
Step 1: Farming & Mining
You’ll land in the Forest Biome, fairly close to the entrance to the Arctic. Ignore Saul and your mission objectives, and instead immediately start collecting/crafting until you’ve got the basics: Bow ‘n arrows, knife, campfire, and bedroll. Make your way south to K-13, keeping a keen eye out for Berries, Soy Beans, Watermelon, and Corn. Collect as much of these asyou can find — note that you can use a Sickle to increase your yield of Berries, Soy Beans, and Corn. Also make note of any Wheat, Yeast, or Lily patches, but don’t harvest these yet. Instead, get some scratch paper and note their location, then return once you’ve crafted an Iron Scythe (this will 4x the amount you can gather).
Continue south until you get to L12. At this point, you can stop and start setting up a base, ideally putting it fairly close to the entrance to the Arctic (you’ll see why in the next section). If you managed to find any of the aforementioned fruits and veggies, craft some Crop Plots and plant them (don’t forget to split the stack until you’ve got a stack of 1 to drag into the Crop Plot’s seed slot). Start a few plants going, but hold off on other Crop Plots until you get a higher tier pickaxe (in order to not waste sulfur nodes). You’ll want to continue collecting these foods and growing them in crop plots until you’ve got all the materials you need (see Step 3). If you didn’t bring Squash Seeds with you from orbit, you’ll want to head into the desert to the lake at K-7/K-8 collect Squash there. A thank you to EIP user JimBob for this tip.
Now your goal is to tech up to the Bolt Action Rifle as efficiently as possible. To do so, tech directly to the Anvil Bench and craft an Iron Pickaxe. Then, craft a Machining Bench, create Steel (you’ll need a Concrete Furnace), and then craft yourself a Steel Pickaxe. Only once you have the Steel Pickaxe should you begin mining in earnest — before this point, only collect the resources you need to tech to the Steel Pickaxe (still a significant quantity, to be fair). At this point, you can also start harvesting Sulfur nodes for the many things you’ll need it for. If you brought a high-tech pickaxe from Orbit you can skip this step, at least until your pickaxe breaks.
Once you’re ready, start mining the nearby caves. Don’t forget to bring your furnace with you so you can smelt while you mine, which reduces the ore’s carry weight and lets you take less trips. You can ignore everything that isn’t Iron, Copper and Coal, since we aren’t going to tech to Tier 4 in this mission. While heading back and forth between the caves and your base, continue to collect Squash, Berries, Soy Beans, Watermelon, and Corn, and keep planting them in Crop Plots. Make sure you’re storing all these food stacks in one place, so they only spoil one unit at a time. Once you have the materials required to craft a Bolt Action Rifle and at least ~50 Rifle Rounds, do so.
Note that Step 2 can be combined with this step — there are caves that can be mined in the Arctic, so consider bringing your furnace and a bedroll with you during Step 2, and mining in between hunting sessions. You’ll want to bring more ammo with you in this case, as it can take up to 10 or so bullets per bear, depending on your aim.
Step 2: Hunting Polar Bears
We’re going to head into the Arctic now, so craft armor if you want — at leastCloth is highly recommended — and grab your gun and ammunition. You’ll also want at least 1 full stack of Cooked Meat, and make sure it’s assigned to an easy-to-press hotbar key. Additionally, craft and bring with you a Repair Hammer, 2 Floors, 4 Walls, and a Campfire. Bring fuel with you as well (this portable shelter will be useful in case a storm hits while you’re in the Arctic). If you aren’t confident in your aiming skills, bring a Bow in addition to your rifle (see strategy below for why). When you’re ready, enter the Arctic via the pass in L-14.
Usually, our guides advise you to avoid Polar Bears, but in this instance, we need their fur! Still, move with caution, as you want to see the bears before they see you. Once you spot one, make sure there are no others around, get as far away as you can while keeping it in vision, and then start shooting. You can also choose to stay close enough that you can get a sneak attack off on its head, but simply having more distance between you and the bear is usually preferable. If you can get on some high ground that’ll cause the bear to have to run around to reach you, all the better.
If you aim well, you should be able to take the bear down before it reaches you. If you don’t, stop firing before it gets too close (since you can’t sprint full speed while reloading). Then run towards it and to the left or right immediately before it reaches you. If done properly, you should dodge its attack. Spin around and shoot it in the face — repeat until the Polar Bear is dead. If it does manage to hit you, don’t panic — keep running instead of turning around, pull out your Cooked Meat, and eat it until you’re full health.
In the example above, you can see how the reload time on the bolt action rifle makes it hard to dodge polar bear attacks and then shoot/reload. It’s a safer bet to pull out a bow (ideally a Longbow with Bone Arrows or better) if the polar bear manages to get close enough that you need to dodge its attacks.
Once you’ve killed all the bears in the small section of the Arctic available to you here, you can continue mining (preferably in the nearby caves) while you wait for the bears to respawn. Make sure you’re saving the meat from the Polar Bears, as you’ll need it to craft Animal Fat. It seems that you can force Polar Bear respawns by entering and exiting the cave in N-15 — they tend to show up right outside the cave entrance if you go far enough in and then leave. Be careful, as there are both worms and a dangerous pit right inside the entrance. There also seem to be a significant number of Polar Bears that spawn at the Forest-Arctic transition zone only after you’ve entered the Arctic, so you can always try heading back to the Forest if you can’t find any more polar bears
Step 3: Crafting & Delivering the Goods
You’ll want to continue swapping between mining and hunting until you’ve got 150 Polar Bear Pelt and all the materials for the munitions you have to deliver. For your convenience, here are the exact materials you’ll need for the guns and ammo:
Once you’ve crafted all of the listed guns and ammunition, take them all and your 150 polar bear pelts to the blue objective marker in I-6 only after double-checking that you have the correct quantity. It’s actually much faster to go through the tunnel in M-9 and then through the desert rather than going through the Arctic the whole way:
When you reach the objective marker, a dropship will land. Press [F] to interact with it, drag the Polar Bear Pelts plus all the guns and ammo into the dropship’s inventory, and it will fly away. One down, one to go!
Food spoils — slowly but surely — so you’ll want to craft the food once you’re finished with the munitions order. Here are the exact materials you’ll need for the Consumables Order:
Note that since some of these ingredients are perishable, and the meals themselves are as well, you should collect extra ingredients so each stack can have 2-3 extra items— this ensures that even if you die en-route, you’ll still have enough fresh meals to complete your objective. The Oxite and Health Restoration Paste don’t spoil, so you can collect/craft them whenever you want.
If you can’t find all of the plants you need in the initial forest biome, there is a section of the Riverlands that is in-bounds — you can reach it via the pass in F-8.
Once you’ve got all the requisite ingredients, craft all of the meals listed plus a few extra of each, and take them to the blue objective marker in I-10 via the pass in K-10 — don’t forget the Health Restoration Paste and Oxite! There will be a significant number of wolves once you get into the Arctic, so make sure you’ve got at least a bow and some bone arrows before you head in; A portable shelter + campfire + bedroll is also a good idea.
When you reach the objective marker, a dropship will land. Press [F] to interact with it, drag the meals plus the Oxite and Health Restoration Paste into the dropship’s inventory, and it will fly away. You did it! You can now head back to your dropship and leave the planet.
This mission is definitely a slog, so please chime in with any tips or suggestions you have for the guide using the comments section below! Questions, comments, and rants about the hours it takes to collect all the materials required for this mission are also welcome.

Crumbed Fish Fillets has been replaced with Freshwater Fillet Curry
Health Restoration Paste has been replaced with Health Enhancement Tonic
Also the arctic Moas can drop arctic fur, but not as much as polar bears. They can be found in between the first and second pod

This isn’t a requirement for the mission, but I found it a lot easier to just build the fabricator and make the hunting rifle. The polar bears can be a real pain. Also, the titanium pickaxe make mining way faster. Either way, the guide works great. Thanks a ton!

Might want to check the recipe requirements as it seems they’ve been updated and you don’t need so many berries now
Ooh, that’s an important tip! Thanks Soylent, I’ll update the guide accordingly.

Thanks for the guide – just a note to say that following the recent patch, squash can no longer be acquired in the Forest. Instead, a player should travel to the desert lake at K7-8 and explore the shrubs until theyve acquired enough squashes to make it back to their waiting crop plots.
Thank you JimBob, I knew I’d missed a Squash mention somewhere! Really appreciate the specific tip, I’ll add it to the guide with your name on it 🙂

Also, if you have 6 stacks of 10 pie, you need an extra stack of 7 to replace it. If all 6 stacks expire at the same time–the extra stack of 7 would also lose 1– you could replace the 6. The “3-4 extra” does not work.
You are a beast dude! Your guide helped us so much on this mission. We ended up making 2 extractors and are pulling out all of the exotics now 🙂 Thank you again!
Haha thanks man, glad to hear it was helpful. Sounds like you’ve got a solid crew of prospectors!

4 Ice Box can be helpfull to prevent the spoil while we craft all the foods. The Bread Dough can’t be store in the Ice Box. The snow can be collect while hunting the polar bear.

Best place to found the Corn is around the lakes in M11-L11-L12. I farmed the Polar Bear Pelt at the South-East corner of K-13, 2 polar bear roaming there, one at the Forest’s exit and another at Arctic’s entrance, then trig the respawn with the cave around once the both are killed. You can place a Bedroll and Campfire in the entrance cave, in case of death. Also, the Campfire can help to cook (or to transform with a Cooking Station to avoid the spoil) the Raw Meat while you hunt and refill your Cooked Meat while you trig the respawn.

Thanks, KayB! Will look into it.
FYI as of the Week 23 patch you can use the sickle for higher yield on berries, beans and corn

Thanks hydrok, I can see how it would be read that way. I’ve added the word “each” for clarity.

There are an error in the materials needed for the 80 Fruit Pies, it’s 80 Berries, not 560. 😅

I am wondering why the mission I am doing currently is not on the list Agriculture Stockpile
Hey Brooklyn Girl, sorry about that! We’re still working on getting the last few mission walkthroughs finished.
