How to Create a Portable Shelter – ICARUS

Unlike other survival crafting games, Icarus isn’t about setting up a huge, permanent base and filling it with loot. Instead, the session-based gameplay encourages strategies that allow for quick and dirty shelter solutions, and faction missions sometimes require you to travel across the planet in search of your objective(s). With that in mind, we’ve created a guide that demonstrates how to create a simple, portable shelter in ICARUS.

This shelter is not only effective for sleeping through the nights or avoiding storms, but it can also be a great way to deal with predators near objectives (or predators that are objectives) — when taking on tough enemies, build fences around your shelter with Wood Railing, or use stone walls instead of wood.

To construct your portable shelter, you’ll need the following:

Which necessitates the following crafting materials:

The concept is simple and straightforward:

  1. Place your Floor.
  2. Place your four walls around the Floor.
    • Make three of the wall pieces Window variants (hold R to do so), and one a Doorway.
  3. Place your Door in the doorway.
  4. Use your second Floor piece as a ceiling.
  5. Once you’re finished, make sure you build a Campfire nearby (it can be outside the shelter), or you won’t be able to sleep in the Bedroll.

That’s all there is to it! When you’re ready to leave in the morning, hold [X] to pick up your Bedroll and
Campfire, then press [Y] on the walls and floors to deconstruct them.

If there is a storm going on, you’ll need to put your campfire indoors, or otherwise cover it.

Which necessitates the following crafting materials:

The concept is simple and straightforward:

  1. Place your Floor.
  2. Place your Bedroll in the middle of the Floor.
  3. Start placing the Roof — hold [R] and select the Peak variant — then place your Roof over your Bedroll. It can be pretty tough to get this part to place — you may have to move your mouse around a bit — I found that standing at one corner of the floor and aiming just to the right or left of the Bedroll did the trick.
  4. Once you’re finished, make sure you build a Campfire nearby, or you won’t be able to sleep in the Bedroll.

If there is a storm going on, you’ll need to put your campfire indoors. This requires a bit more room, which you can easily achieve by building the Multi-Person Variant of the portable shelter.

The concept is the same, but you can fit a lot more people if you use 2-4 Floor pieces and 2-4 Roof pieces:

A sturdier, warmer version can be created using Stone Floors and Roof Pieces:

For the sturdier/ warmer version wouldn’t it be a Stone Roof/Ramp not wall.

Don’t use the 1-person shelter with flat roof in Arctic when there’s a snow storm, even light snow. The roof will collapse from snow build-up. This was not a pleasant experience 🙂
