Large Fishing Village – Rust Monument Guide

In this guide, we will be exploring the Large Fishing Village monument. This guide contains the general strategy and meta for the monument, a boat purchasing guide, outlines for the quests found here, and a map with vendor locations and prices.

For info on how to read the map and some more general information about the guide, please refer to the Map Key in the Main Guide.

Large Fishing Village is the best way to pursue ocean exploration in Rust. The dock housing the monument sits on wooden stilts just off the coast and contains several buildings and shops. Using those, you can purchase boats, submarines, fishing equipment, and diving gear, and then make the best use of those shops by embarking on one of several quests available. There is no better place in the game for acquiring aquatic gear if you have the resources to afford it.

This monument has a lot in common with other safe zones in that it is protected by NPCs who will shoot troublemakers on sight. Because of that, and in order to take advantage of the shops and resources available in the settlement, you should stow away your weapons when entering (you will be given a 5-second warning to do so after entering). You are allowed to keep rocks, torches, and paddles out, but if you attack anyone while inside of the settlement, it will become hostile to you for five minutes. There is nothing to gain by doing this.

Like other Safe Zones, the best way to utilize Large Fishing Village is as a place to buy and sell goods, rendevous with a group, or simply to rest somewhere where you won’t be disturbed or attacked. Naturally, it makes an excellent staging post for any aquatic assault or endeavor.

Of all the available shops in Large Fishing Village, the boat/submarine shop is the most useful. Below is a breakdown of stats for each boat, and how much it’ll cost you to buy from this vendor:

  • Cost: 125 Scrap
  • Seats: 4
  • Fuel: 6 Lowgrade per minute (500 Total capacity)
  • HP: 400
  • Storage: 12 slots
  • Storing: Requires a 2×1 space
  • Tips:
    • The small boat is perfect for farming, as it can easily maneuver between trash piles and requires minimal Lowgrade.
  • Cost: 300 Scrap
  • Seats: 4
  • Fuel: 15 Lowgrade per minute (500 Total capacity)
  • HP: 500
  • Storage: 30 slots
  • Storing: There is no point in storing RHIBs in a safe area as they will always decay at the same rate.
  • Tips:
    • The glass on the front of RHIBs is bulletproof, making them ideal ocean-assault vehicles.
  • Cost: 200 Scrap
  • Seats: 1
  • Fuel: 7.8 Lowgrade per minute (500 total capacity)
  • HP: 500
  • Storage: 12 slots
  • Storing: Requires a 2×1 of space
  • Tips:
    • The driver of a submarine can be killed by shooting them in the head, even though the sub’s metal hull.
    • Remember to carry an air tank in case you need to jump out of the vehicle. Without one, you will die before you can get back in.
  • Cost: 300 Scrap
  • Seats: 2
  • Fuel: 9 Lowgrade per minute
  • HP: 700
  • Storage: 12 slots
  • Storing: Requires a 2×1 space
  • Tips:
    • The Duo Sub’s torpedo is a powerful weapon. It can be used to capsize enemy boats, allowing you to hunt the survivors with harpoons.

Aside from the boat/submarine vendor, there are two other shops in Large Fishing Village. One is the Fish Exchange, where you can buy and sell fish. Selling fish this way can be incredibly lucrative, and can be a good way to make some extra scrap so that you can afford a boat or submarine. Lastly, there is a Diving Gear vendor, whose gear you can purchase to enable underwater exploration without a submarine (or to wear in case you need to leave your sub).

In addition to safety and shopping, there is one more reason to visit Large Fishing Village, and that is to complete the three quests it has to offer. Two of these are diving quests, listed below. Before you begin them, though, keep in mind that both of these quests require a diving set and a harpoon gun.

  1. Talk to the Dive Master
  2. Select “I’d like to hunt”
  3. Head to the dive site marked on your map
  4. Dive below the water’s surface and slay the shark
    • HINT: the best way to do this is to dive up and down to avoid its strike attacks
  5. Return to the dive master to receive:
    • Jackhammer
    • Medical Syringe x3
    • Scrap x25
  1. Talk to the dive master
  2. Select “I’d like to dive”
  3. Head to the dive site marked on your map
  4. Dive below the water’s surface and untie each of the 10 Crates
    • HINT: To stay stealthy, stand on top of the Crates as you untie them, and hover-loot them while swimming up. This will keep your position from being revealed on the surface.
  5. Return to the dive master to receive:
    • Pump Shotgun
    • 12x 12 Guage Buckshot

In addition to those diving quests, there is also a simple fishing quest, which will reward you with the gear you need to begin fishing and some scrap. This equipment can prove incredibly valuable if you use it to acquire fish that you can then sell at the Fish Exchange for profit. The steps to complete this quest are as follows:

  1. Talk to the Fisherman
  2. Select “I need a fishing rod”
  3. Run to the marked location on your map and collect the tackle from the toolbox
  4. Return to the fishermen to receive:
    • Handmade Fishing Rod
    • 10x Grub
  5. Talk to the Fisherman again
  6. Select “I need a kayak”
  7. Catch 3 Fish and return them to the Fishermen
  8. Receive:
    • Kayak
    • Paddle
  9. Talk to the Fisherman one more time
  10. Select “I need some scrap”
  11. Open 8 oil barrels (Red Barrels)
  12. Return 100 crude to the fishermen
  13. Receive:
    • 100 scrap
