Access Is Key – Starfield Mission

The Ryujin Industries missions start to get a little more interesting at this point. In Access Is Key, you’ll have a choice in how you approach securing the security key Imogene has tasked you with retrieving.

  • Quest Type: Faction
  • Prerequisite: A New Narrative
  • Unlocks: Sowing Discord
  • Location
    • System: Volii System
    • Planet: Volii Alpha
    • City: Neon (Core)
  • Rewards
    • 2500 Credits
    • Med Pack (2)
    • 100 XP (At level 27)

It’s likely you already did this step at the end of the last mission, but if you do see this step in your Mission Log under Access Is Key, you’ll need to start out by speaking with Imogene in her office, on the Operations level of Ryujin Industries Tower in the Neon Core. She’ll brief you on the mission, which is another simple task: go to HopeTech in the Valo system, and somehow get a security keycard from the HopeTech security chief.

If you don’t have any ranks in Theft, and you want to complete this mission without any complications, you’ll need to use Persuasion to get the keycard from the HopeTech security chief — and you won’t be able to speak with the chief unless you look the part. If you already have a security guard outfit or suit in your inventory (under Apparel) you can equip it, otherwise, you can easily pick up a suit in the Ryujin Tower lobby.

In the lobby, turn left when facing the glass front of the tower and you’ll Aito Suzuki (Image 1) — you can purchase a wide variety of suits from him. You’ll know that you’ve equipped the proper attire when your mission objectives update (Image 2).

After you’ve secured and equipped the proper attire — or if you’re going to get the keycard without persuasion — it’s time to head to HopeTech. Use your Mission Log to fast travel to Hopetown on Polvo in the Valo system (Image 3) (or else to Polvo Orbit, and then down to Hopetown).

Once you land in Hopetown, head towards the objective marker (Image 4), which will lead you to HopeTech’s entrance (Image 5). Note that from here until you find the security chief, your Scanner will be able to guide you.

Inside HopeTech, head past the welcome desk and go through the door on the far side of the room (Image 6), then continue through the hallway and out the door on the other end. You’ll enter a large hanger — on the right wall, about halfway through the hanger, is the security office (Image 7), where the security chief can be found.

Go into the security office, and you’ll see the security chief indicated by the objective marker. At this point, you have three choices:

  • If you’re wearing a suit or security uniform, you can persuade her to give you the security keycard — pick the first or second dialog option until you see the [Persuade] option appear, then choose it and succeed at the Persuasion attempt.
  • If you have at least one rank in Theft, you can sneak up to the security chief and pickpocket the Hopetown Security Keycard from her. She wanders around, and it doesn’t matter if she’s seen you — just wait for her to turn around, then crouch and sneak up to her until you see the Pickpocket option appear.
  • Finally, you can simply murder the security chief, then loot the keycard from her corpse. Your reward will be docked 10% (250 credits) if you choose this option, however.

This step should be familiar by now — once you have the Hopetown Security Keycard, you’ll need to travel back to Neon and go see Imogene in the Ryujin Tower’s operations level. Talk to her, and choose one of the [Give Item] options to complete the mission!

As always, Imogene will jump right into your next mission briefing if you let her. Hopefully, you’ll finally have your subterfuge skills tested in the upcoming Ryujin Industries mission, Sowing Discord.
